Brilliant! If I didn't know better, I would have thought Mozart wrote this piece for four
guitars. The performance is crisp, tight, and captures the spirit of the original. There
are very few guitar quartets, but this should inspire the creation of many more.

This is the way all musicians should present their music - with scores. Congratulations Robert. And Poon Yew Tien - that was an excellent work.

Hello Robert,

I hope this email finds you well. I have ploughed through your first method, Basic, Thumbs, and I have found it very insightful and extremely helpful. I note with appreciation the amount of detail that you have put into it. The instructions are clear, the exercises are helpful. The staccato and legato exercises are great, and it covers a great deal of material, despite the fact that it is only Thumb! I think your Method is GREAT! I also appreciate the very colourful, imaginative, and original accompaniments that you have written for your self to play with your students. The chromaticisms, syncopations, etc., are great! Also helpful are the diagrams and whimsical pictures. How I wish I had ordered these books earlier on! But better late than never, I suppose. I look forward to reviewing Thumbs all over again, and then embarking on my next new adventure, Basic Rest Stroke! Nothing's more important than getting the basics right.

... Your books are truly lovely and I can almost "feel" your presence, just like those fortunate 10 lessons that you gave me back in 1975. I shall always be grateful. Just Thumbs and Rest Stroke alone have improved my enjoyment of the guitar almost overnight. I can't believe it.

Warmest regards,
Your grateful ex-student,

Ken Lee

I have much enjoyed "Of Colors Most Fleeting". You are right -- it does indeed require digestion! What particularly stands out for me is the sound of the high register guitars on the rags and Renaissance pieces. I am also pleased that there is nothing I dislike. The musianship is superb, and the four of you manage to produce a huge variety of sounds. More than once even after many years of study, I would hear some novel effect and wonder "How did they do that?"

Well Robert , this is a side of you I did not know existed. That aside at the infancy of synthasizing music the feelings put across are very good. The combination of Cello and the synthasizer bring across the final moments of the final dinasour. When I get readjusted to this weirder side of you we should have a Sailor Jerry together !

It was good to chat with you yesterday, and I thank you again for sending the CD "Of Colors Most Fleeting" (Volume 1). This collection is a delight. Particularly impressive is the tight, well balanced ensemble apparent from the opening notes. Beyond the skill of performance and the clarity of recording, credit must be given to the details of instrumentation: The choice of two alto guitars with a single prime and bass instruments allows the quartet to achieve a smooth, full sound palette without "pushing" natural ranges. And it all complements the selection of compositions very well indeed.
